Crown builds drinks can plant in Slovakia

Crown Holdings, the global packaging company, has announced that it will construct a new beverage can plant in Kechnec, in eastern Slovakia.

The new plant, which will be operational in the fourth quarter of 2009, will have an initial capacity of 750 million cans a year and will be designed to support the addition of further production lines as future demands requires.

Ralph Lambert, vice president of Crown's beverage business in Eastern Europe, said: "Major international brewers and soft drinks companies are investing heavily in the area and Kechnec, in eastern Slovakia, is the ideal place for supporting our customers across the region and further strengthening Crown's geographic footprint in Europe.

"We believe that Slovakia, with its resources, services and infrastructure, is an excellent location for this new investment," he added.

Crown already operates five production plants in Eastern Europe for its food and closures businesses.
