Huhtamäki to close Arizona facility

Huhtamäki Oyj (Finland) says that it will begin closing down its rigid plastic operations in Phoenix (US) with immediate effect. The action is part of an ongoing strategic review of the company’s rigid plastics operations.

Closure of the site is expected to be completed in the first-quarter of 2009 and will incur a one-time charge of around €5 million (US$6.27m). The company says that the manufacturing equipment and operations will be consolidated into its other plastics operations at Coleman, and New Vienna.

The strategic review is intended to lower infrastructure costs and to optimise production efficiencies, which Huhtamäki hopes will allow it to become more profitable and competitive.
